Why You Should Wake Up Earlier

All who are close to me know that I have never necessarily been a morning person, until recently. A few weeks ago my roommate and I decided to challange to ourselves: we committed to following the 75 Hard Challange, well, the light version. Fittingly, we decided to re-name our version of this challenge 30 Medium (only 30 days, with slightly modified criteria since we are trying to set ourselves up for success).
Long story short, I have come to find out that fitting in two workouts per day is incredibly time-consuming. Between working up the willpower to get into the gym, to post-workout necessities, I needed more hours in my day. So, I began getting up at 6:30 AM (7:00 AM some days if I’m being honest) and this is what I’ve noticed:
1. Mornings have become my favorite part of the day.
There are few things that are more peaceful than being awake before the world around you wakes up. Mornings have slowed down, and I now have plenty of time to do things like make my bed each morning, enjoy a coffee, and read my Bible first thing. While we’re on the topic, I recommend you incorporate all of those things into your morning routine as well.
2. My productivity [and motivation] has sky-rocketed.
By the time noon comes around, you will feel as if you have gotten a day’s worth of tasks completed. Additionally, exercise and clean eating have become a pleasure, rather than a burden.
3. My energy levels have never been so high.
This one speaks for itself. You would think this is counterintuitive, but try it for yourself!
4. Better sleep!
An earlier start provides an opportunity for an earlier finish. Plus, I’m actually tired by 10:00 PM and fall asleep much more quickly.
5. My water intake has increased.
I am the worst water-drinker ever. Somehow, my body has been surviving on a very low liquid intake all my life (not good, I know), but I have found that getting in 2 liters of water a day has not been too hard since waking up earlier. Maybe it’s because of the workouts, or maybe it’s due to being awake for longer but either way, I am excited about it!
So start tomorrow, even if it’s just 1 hour earlier! If I haven’t convinced you yet, here are some articles you can check out with more proven data:
