What Volleyball Has Taught Me...

Looking back on my life, there are a couple of undeniably pivotal events, or experiences, that have shaped my life. Some big ones that come to mind are particular relationships, or maybe moving to a new school, but every time I think about this topic, volleyball stands out.
I never had dreams to become a professional player, or even to continue playing in college, but that doesn't make volleyball's impact on me any less prominent. I was hesitant to write on this topic, because I know I will not be able to do this justice with my words, but volleyball has been one of the most influential things in my life, so it only made sense.
I started playing when I was about 6 years old, which came after a failed attempt at basketball (to be fair, I was the only girl on an all boys team with my little brother) and gymnastics. It quickly became a passion, and I ended up sticking with it for the next 12 years.
There were some good seasons, some bad seasons, some great ones, and some that I even wanted to quit, but I wouldn't trade a single one of them. Volleyball taught me hard work, it taught me grit, it taught me passion, and everything in between. The blessings that came from it are innumerable.
I could go on for pages and pages about the lessons I’ve learned, the people I’ve met, and the memories I will cherish forever, but I can’t do that (plus, I would probably cry). I guess what I am trying to say is that I will forever be grateful for all that volleyball gave me, and I can't wait to see how volleyball plays a role in my future in one way or another. So, as cliche as it may sound, if you are in middle school or high school and currently playing volleyball, stop yourself from taking a single practice or game or lift for granted because you will surely miss it when it's gone.
